Benee Releases Debut 'Fire On Marzz' EP

28 June 2019 - 0 Comments

Hailing from the suburbs of Auckland, 19-year-old indie pop artist Benee has made her mark on the world with her debut Fire On Marzz EP out today — listen HERE!

On Fire On Marzz, Benee noted, “When it came to coming up with a name for my EP, what first came to mind was wanting a phrase that was a big old explosion, because that’s kinda what the EP feels like to me. I came up with the name Fire On Marzz and thought it did the best job at not really relating to any song in the EP. I didn’t think there was a phrase that could sum them all up.”

Coming off the heels of her Platinum-Certified hit SoakedEvil Spider, and recent single Want Me Back, the EP also including three new songs: GlitterWishful Thinking, and Afterlife. The EP artwork was created by Ricardo Cavolo and continues the Benee tradition of artistic collaborations to illustrate her music. Benee says, “I considered what the EP was going to look like visually when I named it. I wanted to find an artist that could really pour all the colours that I feel from each song into a piece of art. Ricardo Cavolo is this crazzzy coool Spanish artist whose flames instantly stood out to me. We had a phone conversation where I said that I wanted Mars to be on fire in it, but I also wanted him to go wild on a bunch of weird doodles that might come to mind when listening to the songs on my EP and he nailedddd itttt.”

In support of Fire On Marzz, Benee will be performing a sold-out EP release show at Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday June 28th following her whirlwind first tour of the Northern Hemisphere.

Benee has emerged as New Zealand’s artist to watch with her chart-topping hit Soaked, which quickly climbed Spotify’s Viral Charts, accumulated nearly 20 million streams to date, charted on Australia’s Triple J radio’s Hottest 100 of 2018 and held the number one spot on New Zealand’s Shazam Top 100 for two months, not to mention achieved Platinum Certification in New Zealand. With endorsements from Zane Lowe and Apple’s Beats1 radio, Benee went from playing her first small club gig to her first arena show—opening for longtime role model Lily Allen—in a matter of months. Not to mention, her song Evil Spider has already hit over 2 million streams and counting!

ABOUT BENEE

Vi·sion·ar·y - as defined by Google - is a (noun) person with original ideas who plans the future with imagination or wisdom. With both traits in abundance well beyond her 19 years, New Zealand’s Benee redefines the word. Carving out a space between indie pop and R&B, she deconstructs modern “pop music” to create a sonic landscape all her own. Growing up in suburban Auckland, New Zealand among a community of creatives, Benee was immersed in the arts from a young age, and after releasing a series of self-released GarageBand covers on SoundCloud, she was soon writing and recording at Golden Age Studio with producer Josh Fountain in her senior year of high school. Just two weeks after enrolling in university, Benee dropped out with a now unstoppable and feverish conviction to pursue music full-time. After releasing her breakout single Soaked in 2018, what she refers to as her ‘Beneevision’— or “the idea that all of my music, visuals and content contribute to a greater artwork.”—immediately hit home.
