Producer-songwriter duo Beach Blue (Nik Brinkman & Rodney Fisher) drop their first offering What’s Wrong (With You) an infectious and hooky new-wave summer banger.
The track, featuring Rodney Fisher on vocals, is lyrically sarcastic in tone, exploring the idea of a relationship on the rocks.
After meeting in person for the first time in Wellington, Rodney and Nik crammed in a 2 hour studio writing session before Rodney darted off to catch his flight back to Auckland. Finishing off the track with backing vocals recorded in Rodney’s car (the only quiet place he could find), that short and frantic songwriting session resulted in a tune that just felt right - a perfect starting point for Beach Blue.
The duo have made a pact to push themselves in what ever direction the songs demand no matter the genre, but one thing is for sure it has to pop. Expect feature vocalists and a fresh approach to pop music in their upcoming releases.
Rodney Fisher is the front-man of multi-platinum 00’s alt-pop act, Goodshirt, who rose to fame for their hits, Sophie, Fiji Baby and Blowing Dirt, while Nik Brinkman is a prolific producer, known for his work with Josie Moon, Physical, and Bright Music, as well as his notable songwriting collaborations with Ladyhawke, Mitch James, Die! Die! Die! and many more.
