WOMAD New Zealand - the 2019 Day Schedule released

13 December 2018 - 0 Comments

In what has become a welcome pre-Christmas tradition, WOMAD New Zealand has today announced the 2019 festival Day Schedule.

See your festival favourites perform twice or schedule your weekend around the exclusive one-off performances.

As The Spinoff accurately reported on the back of the sold out 2018 festival, "WOMAD would never be so cruel as to only play things once, so most acts put on repeat performances over the weekend allowing you the chance to customise an itinerary that would rival an around the world music trip."

Already a festival favourite - South London duo The Correspondents return to WOMAD to play twice across the weekend. Also scheduled for more than one performance are the Indian father/son trio Amjad Ali Khan, futuristic funk musician Baloji, the "Afropsyychedelic" ensemble BCUC and the 78-year-old Amazonian Dona Onete.

WOMAD welcomes double performances from Celtic group Jamie Smith’s Mabon, the celebrated hip-hop artist and daughter of Buena Vista Social Clubs Jesus Ramos - La Dame Blanche and the Afro-Mexican fusion group Las Cafeteras. As well as from the entrancing Estonian duo Maarja Nuut & Ruum, Moroccan 'Guembri' master Maalem Hamid El Kasri, the "voodoo trance" trio My Baby and from the first professional female virtuoso of the Kora Sona Jobarteh.

The award-winning collective Silkroad Road Ensemble, the Irish genre-defying accordion player Sharon Shannon Band, global Pop DJ Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar, traditional Greek group Rebetien andthe 18 strong choir Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe will all play twice throughout the festival.
