Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated Announces YAMI 2019

04 December 2018 - 0 Comments

The biennial YAMI Sounz Summit, (Youth & Adults in the Music Industry) is hosting its fourth event in Wanaka, over the weekend of May 11 & 12 in 2019.

Held during New Zealand Music Month, YAMI hosts a weekend of music workshops and panels, culminating in two concerts open to the public. Music professionals share their wealth of knowledge on the many areas of the music industry to its participants. Open to ages 10 to 110, the summit offers workshops and panels, culminating in two concerts open to the public. Summit workshop topics include song writing, music technology, recording and production, artist and event management, plus marketing, funding and media.

Director Lynne Christie says, “We’ve loved seeing this summit grow into a taonga of the South Island. Some participants and tutors have been here since the start, so we get to witness giant transformations and career steps.”

One tutor committed to the summit is The Black Seeds’ and Fly My Pretties' frontman Barnaby Weir, who explains why he will be returning to Wanaka next May. “It’s a truly inspiring, creative, and educational event where a huge range of engaging mentors and enthusiasts come together to learn, experiment and discuss the world of music. I love being involved in the experience so I’m back for my fourth round! Yami empowers people.”

Other heavyweights of the music industry who have already confirmed their availability for YAMI include Warren Maxwell (TrinityRoots, Little Bushman), Lisa Tomlins (TrinityRoots, Lord Echo), Tiki Taane, Bella Kalolo, Kings, P Digsss (Shapeshifter) and Lee Prebble (Owner, Surgery Studios). More tutors and speakers are to be announced this summer.

The aim of the not-for-profit summit is to motivate and inspire students to embark on their own musical journey, while providing tips and tricks to help them succeed in the ever-changing creative industries.

Registrations are now open and a total of 150 places are available through the YAMI website. http://yami.nz
