Mental health in sight as New Zealand Music Foundation aligns with VNZMA

09 November 2017 - 0 Comments

For the third year running, Recorded Music has aligned with The New Zealand Music Foundation as the charity partner for the 2017 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.

Recorded Music CEO Damian Vaughan says it’s an honour to work alongside the foundation, especially with the care and focus on mental health issues in the music and creative industry over the last 12 months.

“The Foundation develops and supports many wonderful music projects across the countryand it plays a vital part in our industry providing support to NZ musicians experiencing physical and mental health & wellbeing challenges.” says Vaughan.

“Their work in this space and with the creation of the helpline for those in the music industry has been amazing and a welcome initiative.”

NZ Music Foundation General Manager Peter Dickens believes the relationship with Recorded Music is invaluable to reaching the public and highlighting the magic of music and what can be achieved in communities nationwide.

“Through the awards we are able to talk about our work with music projects across the country, while also reaching those in the music community for whom we provide emergency assistance and health and wellbeing services.”

In addition to the music projects in hospitals, hospices, schools, and community venues around New Zealand that it supports, the charity provides emergency assistance to kiwi music people experiencing illness and hardship and a professional counselling service tailored to those involved in all aspects of music production and performance.

The Foundation was established in 2012 and is dedicated to developing and supporting projects that all have one thing in common: they change lives through music.

The charity supports projects that use music in healthcare and with at-risk & vulnerable people. This includes music therapy in hospices and projects that use the power of music to restore physical and cognitive ability lost as a result of disease and injury.
