Music News - Joey Bada$$ And Run The Jewels Announce Double Headliner

23 September 2014 - 0 Comments

“This Bada$$ is proving that we're in the middle of another golden age for hip-hop - and he's right at the centre of it.” – NZ Herald

“..the recent collaboration between the two has proven electric, producing a critically acclaimed eponymous album under the Run The Jewels moniker and a loyal fan base that drew the 38-year-olds Down Under.” – Stuff.co.nz

Joey Bada$$ and Run The Jewels can do no wrong.

With summer just round the corner, Robin Fernando are heating things up with a massive double-headline announcement; Joey Bada$$ and Run The Jewels are confirmed to return to our shores in January next year. New Zealand fans had a taste earlier this year performing to packed audiences; no doubt these king-sized acts are set to turn things up even further this January 9 and 10.

JOEY BADA$$

This Brooklyn 19-year old kid has definitely earned a spot in hip-hop’s significant musical landscape over the past few years. Joey MC’s with ease; his natural poetic talent and penchant for channelling what many identify as the 1990’s golden era of hip-hop has made him the first from his Pro Era team to ink a label contract, get a BET Hip Hop Awards nomination, win the recognition of cultural gatekeepers like MTV, Billboard and Rolling Stone as well as acknowledgment from Brooklyn’s finest MC turned mogul, Jay-Z. Now that is a statement.

He got eyebrows raised off the back of his first mix tape 1999 two years ago, and the ball kept rolling after he dropped Summer Knights EP in the middle of last year. Thanks to 1999’s solid bars and nostalgically melodic beats, Joey earned a spot on A$AP Rocky’s posse cut 1 Train and BET’s 2013 Music Matters performance series, a BET Hip-Hop Awards nomination, and a spot on the Artist To Watch lists of MTV, Billboard, Shazam and eMusic.

All of these new records also continue Bada$$’s foray into the aura of hip-hop’s golden age, but despite what some may assume, he’s not channelling any lost spirits.

Joey Bada$$ will bring his unique brand of contemporary rap to New Zealand -- get ready to pull up a seat.

RUN THE JEWELS

El-P and Killer Mike, 2 of hip-hop’s most respected & formidable artists, first joined forces in 2012 on Killer Mike’s classic album, R.A.P. Music, produced by El-P.  Mike then appeared on El-P's smashing solo album Cancer 4 Cure. That experience became a creative marriage resulting in the birth of the group Run the Jewels. After much anticipation, they released their self-titled debut album in 2013 on Fool's Gold for free as a ‘thank you’ to fans.

Since then, Run the Jewels has become one of the most celebrated hip hop acts of the past year and toured to world-wide acclaim. Now they’re back for Round 2 - RTJ2 - and it’s time to unleash fresh new music on the ravenous hordes. Freshly signed to Mass Appeal Records (the new label of rap legend Nas), RTJ2 is a boisterously brilliant and powerful follow up album featuring appearances from notable artists and producers including Zack De La Rocha (Rage Against the Machine), Travis Barker (Blink 182), BOOTS (Beyonce), Diane Coffee and more.

The album will be available worldwide October 27th as a free download via http://www.runthejewels.net/ and for sale in your favourite music store.  Get it.

Don’t lose your mind over this tour; tickets will sell fast.
