Music News - RadioWorks Hit By $30,000 Theft

26 November 2003 - 0 Comments

As if he didn’t have plenty else to worry about, in the midst of bidding for Auckland radio frequencies and dealing with the normal technical issues, RadioWorks Engineering General Manager John Haynes, had to contend with a break-in at the Ponsonby office last night. More than $30,000 worth of studio and computer equipment was taken.

“They got into the courtyard over the gates and removed the louvres from my office,” says John. “Then a small person must’ve slipped through.”

The thieves have disrupted upgrade plans for various RadioWorks stations.

“There was a digital Yamaha consul for Wanganui, which is the newest model and one of only 12 in the country. And they stole gear destined for Waikato which was urgent as they’re moving premises.”

Haynes doesn’t hold much hope for having the goods returned and says the operation was carried out by professionals.

“They were serious. They didn’t take my Guinness and they used gloves. It must be destined for a recording studio as the gear can only be used in an audio or on-air studio. The Yamaha consul was the biggest loss. That alone is worth $20, 000.”
