Outward Sound Recipients Round 2 2013

20 June 2013 - 0 Comments

Outward Sound is pleased to announce the 2nd round of grant recipients for 2013.

Four Stage Ones, two Stage Twos, one Stage Three and three Business Development grants were awarded.

Gin Wigmore – Stage Three

A star here in New Zealand, Gin Wigmore is fast becoming a household name in America. Songs from her album Gravel & Wine have already been heard in over 30 US campaigns (Heineken, Guinness, Lowe's) and she has also appeared on national TV shows such as Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Day New York, VH1 Big Morning Buzz and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Wigmore's self-titled EP went multi-Platinum here, and was soon followed by her multi-Platinum album debut, Holy Smoke that, at one point, had four of its songs simultaneously in the NZ Top 40 chart. Gin was named Breakthrough Artist Of the Year at the 2010 NZ Music Awards, and Holy Smoke was the big winner, taking home Best Pop Album, Highest Selling Album, and Vodafone Album Of the Year honours.

Before beginning work on her follow-up album, and hungry to feed her Blues appetite, Wigmore took a two month solo trek along the Mississippi Blues Trail and the heartland of America “to wrestle my emotions and bring out the raw grit hiding in my tightly guarded sub-conscious.”

Already multi-Platinum with a #1 debut here in NZ, Gravel & Wine was released in the US in March, and is being supported by Wigmore's participation in the 40 city cross-country Warped Tour.

Six60 – Stage Two

To say it has been a busy few months on the road for Six60 is an understatement. Late last year they traveled to the USA for their first series of shows taking in dates at CMJ festival in New York followed by shows in LA and San Francisco. They returned stateside in 2013 with several electric performances at SXSW and onto Canadian Music Week. The band then headed to the UK in May where they unleashed their energetic live shows on audiences attending the Great Escape festival in Brighton where they won over many new fans.

Six60 will be based in Berlin for a few months to focus on the release of their multi-platinum selling debut album. They will be touring and performing in and around Europe during this time in support of the release. The band will also be playing at the legendary Glastonbury festival on Friday June 28th.

“These guys know what they’re doing. They wanted everyone to have a good time and enjoy the music and it didn’t take long for that to happen, playing some of the coolest tracks I’ve heard in a long time. These guys are good, exceptionally good. Six60 had done what they came to do and that was to rock the hell out of L.A. Mission accomplished, guys” - POPZINEONLINE
