Tuborg Sounds On Announces The Sitka & Element Goodzone

12 March 2013 - 0 Comments

Tuborg Sounds On returns on March 23, 2013 on Auckland’s North Shore with a raft of Aotearoa’s favourite acts and a strong commitment to environmental and social awareness.

The line-up features: The Black Seeds, David Dallas, Home Brew, Katchafire, TrinityRoots, AHoriBuzz, Tahuna Breaks, Tiki Taane, Five Mile Town, Dan Aux & Tali, DJ Sir-Vere ft. Che Fu, PNC & K.One, Eavesdrop and Kong Fooey.

The Non Government Organisations (NGOs) joining this amazing line-up in the Sitka & Element GOODZONEinclude: Sustainable Coastlines, Conscious Consumers, The Global Poverty Project, SurfAid International, Sea Shepherd, S.A.F.E. and Forest & Bird.

Designed to promote change at Tuborg Sounds On, The Sitka & Element GOODZONE looks to engage music fans in a fun and informative way - and to inspire change in the way Kiwis think, act and live. The Goodzone aims to combine “Fun, Vision and Change”!

A destination at the festival, The Sitka and Element GOODZONE will feature seven high profile NGOs alongside food vendors, giant games and amusement rides creating a place for festival-goers to learn, be entertained, eat and drink.

Participating NGOs represent a broad range of topics including coastal, marine and forest conservation, humanitarian efforts, sustainable business and animal protection advocacy.

Tuborg Sounds On is also active in promoting sustainability via a partnership with Auckland Transport. Festival-goers can catch event buses and trains within Auckland at no extra cost. They just have to show their Tuborg Sounds On ticket to travel for free. This will dramatically reduce emissions and congestion; while providing punters with a fuss-free and safe way to travel to the event.

The festival’s original charity partner, Sustainable Coastlines, will be carrying out work, which will ensure that not only is Tuborg Sounds On a great sustainable event, but that it contributes towards making a difference. The organisation will be running a pre-concert beach clean-up of Takapuna and Milford beaches on the morning of the festival (March 23rd). The cleanup bus leaves stop number 7055, (The Civic, Queen St) at 10am on Saturday March 23 and hits Takapuna Beach at 10.30am before Milford Beach at 11.15am. Festival-goers can catch this bus for free with a Tuborg Sounds On ticket or meet the guys at the beach (public welcome to attend). The clean-up bus will be arriving at Sounds On at approximately 12:15pm.

For more information about the clean-up go to http://www.sustainablecoastlines.org/

ABOUT THE PARTICIPATING NGOs:

1. SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES

Their mobile classroom – the Education Station – will be at Tuborg Sounds On raising awareness about litter in marine environments. They will also be organising clean-ups at Takapuna and Milford Beaches prior to the event. 2. CONSCIOUS CONSUMERS

Conscious Consumers is New Zealand’s first ethics-based accreditation programme for the hospitality sector – making it easy for you to make good choices. Conscious Consumers connects suppliers and retailers with consumers who care about their environment and community by facilitating and promoting ethical and sustainable business practices by accrediting various cafes, bars, restaurants, takeaways, caterers and their suppliers. Using their website and smartphone app, you can locate businesses that align with your values.  At Tuborg Sounds On, they will be featuring a stall in collaboration with one of their suppliers, Phoenix Organics.

Their latest initiative, the Global Citizen Movement, takes people on an in-depth journey into the stories of hope and resilience that define the global effort to lift over One billion people out of extreme poverty.  Global Citizen mixes substance and structure with exciting incentives to take the discussion of global citizenry to a young, inspired and socially networked generation. Launching in New Zealand in March, they will be showcasing this platform at Tuborg Sounds On.

5. SURFAID

SurfAid International is a non-profit humanitarian organisation with the aim to improve the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. SurfAid was started by a group of concerned surfers in 2000, who were struck by the needless suffering and preventable death in the Mentawai Islands. Today SurfAid is proud that more than 95 percent of the programme staff are Indonesian nationals who work hand-in-hand with the communities in Mentawai and Nias islands, off Indonesia’s Sumatran coast, to bring positive, sustainable health change; while respecting the unique culture and customs of the islands.

Their aim is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. Sea Shepherd campaigns are guided by the United Nations World Charter for Nature and the organisation is authorised to act on behalf of, and enforce, international conservation laws. At Tuborg Sounds On a crewmember from one of their vessels plus a multimedia display will be present to engage with festival-goers and distribute information on their various initiatives.  http://www.seashepherd.org.nz/
