Music News - Finalists Chosen For Launchpad's Second Round

26 April 2003 - 0 Comments

The second round of Launchpad is now down to a shortlist of three finalists. A panel of judges has met to listen to all of the entries and pick the best three.

Launchpad is a joint initiative between Space and Coke designed to help launch a New Zealand band. The winning artist or band will receive a video made for them, a guest live appearance on Space, help with publicity and promotion and a feature article in Rip It Up magazine.

The winner will be picked by public vote on the Space website http://www.spacenz.com

The three finalists are as follows.

Bolbox Rex - 'Severed Tongue'

Bolbox Rex are a four-piece from Auckland that have been making music since they were at school together. They started off the year winning a Channel Z competition to be the opening act at this years Big Day Out and Tom Larkin from Pacifier said they sound like "a maxed out, metalled-up Green Day".

Kritical Methods - 'Kritical Methods'

A West-Auckland super-crew made up of various collectives - they have performed at the Big Day Out and at University Orientations. They have said that they formed like a "Maori Voltron", representing the raw underground sound of Hip-hop.

Verse Two - 'Gold'

Originally from Christchurch, Verse 2 have been the new underground hype of Auckland since moving there in 2002. The band features vocallist Ladisix from SheelaRoc. This is a rough mix of the song, which will soon be mixed for the final version by Wellington producer Mu.

To cast your vote go to http://www.spacenz.com/ - you can listen to the tracks and pick who you think should be the winner. Voting closes on Thursday 8th May with the winner announced live on Space on Friday 9th May.
