Music News - Shooting Spree and Duke Heart Maddie Exhibition

Shooting Spree and Duke Heart Maddie Exhibition

02 March 2011 - 0 Comments

Local band photographer, Amanda Ratcliffe – AKA amandashootsbands is teaming up with The Plush Room’s Antoinette Ratcliffe to deliver what will be what Jem once said - a ‘truly truly truly outrageous’ evening filled with colorful treats down in the basement at one of Auckland’s most iconic music venues – Galatos.

Shooting Spree and Duke heart Maddie is an exhibition that comes in two parts, which has been lovingly joined together with a simple ‘and’ in the middle.  The gals have been working on their pieces for the past couple of months, and are gearing up for the FREE one-nighter which is set to be held on the 10th March from 6-9:30pm.

Works on display and for sale on the evening will be Amanda Ratcliffe’s shootings – a range of photographic treats, so delightful your mouth will water from just looking at them.  Such pieces include favorite images taken of live performances, along with some back stage and promotional specials, which are rather exclusive and unique to the photographer herself.

A range of beautifully framed (think ornate) and unframed images will be on display, and will all be up for grabs to all you lovely folk on the night.  Along with a few other surprises, and possibly some stencil art, Shooting Spree will bring back fond memories to local music lovers, and provides an insight of what it’s really like to be a musician in New Zealand.

The ‘other half’ of the exhibition, Duke heart Maddie is brought to you by Wellington artist, Antoinette Ratcliffe who has just completed her Master of Arts at The School of Media Arts.

Antoinette’s content related interests are a development of thematic narrative using banal situations, entertainment and anthropomorphic association to create a humorous situation, which alludes to a B grade horror film with a comic influence.

Her plush installations have been gaining the interest of well-loved artists around the country including the likes of the uber talented Miss Mica Still and tattoo artist, Simon Morse.  Works available for purchase on the evening will have your eyes popping out of your head with excitement, and are guaranteed to give you nightmares.  Of the humorous kind.

Along with eye candy, the little ladies have also been working something special for your ears – a compilation of carefully selected music by a range of local artists who have offered their tunes for the evening.  There’s something for everyone with music by 2 a.m. Orchestra, Aum, Bear Cat, Charlie ASH, Collapsing Cities, Deer Park, Dick Dynamite & The Doppelgangers, Dylan Storey, Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, Glass Owls, Gold Medal Famous, Great North, John The Baptist, Minuit, Popstrangers, So So Modern, Sora Shima, Stevie Starr, The Bathtub Sophist and The Twitch.

From 8:30pm, the gorgeous Plum Green will share with you her acoustic music that has been winning the hearts of many over the years.  Teamed up with milk and home made cookies straight from the Ratcliffe’s ovens, your Thursday night can’t possibly get any sweeter.
