Indie Punk-Rockers The Transits Release Their Self-Titled Debut Album

31 October 2024 - 0 Comments

They’ve been on the Official NZ Music Charts, the South Africa Top 40 Chart and Aotearoa RadioScope Alt Chart, and today, the NZ-South African band The Transits have released their annual Halloween single. Last year, they dropped the successful Lost Ones, and this year, they’re back with the energetic, tongue-in-cheek punk anthem Living Dead for a Paycheck.

For last Halloween, The Transits released a short film music video for Lost Ones. The video quickly became a fan favorite, especially with fans of 80's horror, skateboarding, and vampires. In February 2024, the band released their debut album, a 10-track indie-punk, synth-pop banger. It’s the result of countless hours spent writing and recording online across three home studios in two countries and two time zones, with member Ryan Lunn (vocals, guitars, synths) in Durban, South Africa and members Dom Antelme (vocals, bass) and Tyrone Smith (drums) based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Fortunately, the trio know each other well, having made music together on and off since forming their first band as teenagers. “We’ve been close friends for even longer than that, and our sound reflects the joy and passion of us being a band again,” says Dom.  “It’s been a busy year refining The Transits’ sound—a mix of rock, punk, indie, and synth-pop — with an overall energetic vibe.”

The excitement for today’s release has been built up from the release of stand out hit Heartbreak Queen (Woman’s Day Magazine, Apple Music New in Rock, The New Rock and new Music Daily, 2x RadioScope Charts) and synth-laden single Lost Ones (Rolling Stone AU/NZ, SRN, 60k+ streams across platforms, Auckland Independent Film Showcase); rock-infused punk track Renegade Hearts (Apple Music New In Punk, New Music Daily, Radio Hauraki, South African Top 40 chart); the haunting synth-driven Fall Into Dark; and their smash debut single When You Went Away (Apple Music New in Punk, South African Top 40 chart, Aotearoa RadioScope Alternative chart, Winner 2023 Show Me Shorts NZOA Best Music Video, Official Selection 2024 Poppy Jasper International Film Festival).

Living Dead for a Paycheck is a fun, tongue-in-cheek song about working yourself to the bone for someone else’s benefit. The song encourages people to pause and realize that life is for living, not just surviving.

Known for their standout music videos, The Transits have created another fun one for Living Dead for a Paycheck. It depicts workers in a corporate office pushing themselves to the brink until they snap and literally become the living dead. The video humorously shows these living dead trying to go about their office tasks, like scanning their faces at the copy machine.

After an impressive first year as a band, culminating in the release of their self-titled debut album, TheTransits and their growing fanbase show no signs of slowing down, with the band already working on their second album. But for now, hit play and enjoy! Happy Halloween!
