Tāmaki Makaurau's Ocean Beach are keeping their promise of releasing a new song on the first day of each month, and today they bring us the gorgeous Be Together.

It's a long way from a typical love song. Songwriter and frontman Gary Dalhousie says that Be Together is a tribute to meditation; "an internal conversation between the Ahamkara, the self and the Atman, the soul. The ahamkara is temporary and asks questions of the permanent atman such as, "should I party" or "should I seek solace".
There's also a tension between my Pasifika half and my European half which can be a separation I sometimes struggle to reconcile. Ultimately, all the little questions I have in my life are batted away, twice a day, through meditation. It allows me to think clearer, act with positivity and generally, Be Together."
On July 1st Ocean Beach released Boys' Club, the first single in this series, which was played across the Student Radio Network (SRN). On August 1st they dropped Come Around, which charted on the SRN Top Ten, reached No. 2 on the 95bFM Top Ten two weeks in a row, and was No. 6 on the Radioscope Alt airplay chart. September 1st saw the release of Omnism, which also hit the SRN Top Ten and the Alt airplay chart, and spent three weeks in the 95bFM Top Ten.
The story of Bryan Ferry and Steve Malkmus’ Tongan love child Gary Dalhousie – the cheese monger who learned to play the guitar – continues to evolve. A world where DD Smash takes more acid, and Ram Dass is in a pub rock band. A world where sonic instrumentals merge with pop in the middle of spaghetti junction.
Ocean Beach is the vehicle for this ride. Their forthcoming album, The Long Road Home, is the tale of one man’s journey from anxious Southland kid to conscious father, partner and mentor.
