The Beatniks Release Their First Single 'Wake Up Jane' on 14th February

27 January 2023 - 0 Comments

The Beatniks are ecstatic to announce that they will release their debut single Wake Up Jane on the 14th of February 2023.

The Beatniks consist of 5 Dunedin locals, who can’t seem to be pinned down to a singular genre due to their ability to go from an intimate eye to eye connection to an explosive wall of noise and energy that demands interaction. Combining a punk rock energy with lyricism that will stop you in your tracks. Sam (AK), Ollie (AK), Logan (CHCH), Kendall (WLG) and Seth all met in 2021 during their early days of University, and decided after a chat about the state of the music scene in Dunedin and New Zealand to bring the band The Beatniks to fruition.

2021 saw The Beatniks get their feet wet in the local Dunedin music scene, playing at the biggest bars around Dunedin (UBAR and Starters) as well as playing flat parties and ball events, getting their name out to the student populous and general population alike.

2022 was even bigger and better for The Beatniks, running multiple sold out headlining shows in Dunedin, and generating lines that would span multiple blocks for free pint night shows, people standing in line for hours (due to the maximum capacity being 400) waiting for someone to leave just to get a slice of The Beatniks experience.

Wake Up Jane is a reflection of another hectic year in Dunedin for the band; another year of partying, surfing, skating and playing gigs. Influenced by Dunedin sound legends like The Verlaines, and The Clean, and other Flying Nun bands such as Bailterspace, Toy Love, Garageland, Gordons etc. Known more as a ‘Live Band’, Wake Up Jane is New Zealand’s first glimpse at what is yet to come for the recorded sound of The Beatniks.
