Christchurch Rock Band, Electric Temples Release their Debut Single 'I Want The World' on 26 August

05 August 2022 - 0 Comments

Graduates from Ara Music Arts have banded together to produce some of the catchiest Rock music we have heard out of New Zealand in the last 10 years.

Recorded and produced t
hemselves, Electric Temples is making waves in an impressive way that boasts no label, no funding and a tireless work ethic that finds them burning the candle at both ends to try and get their message heard. But what exactly is that message?

The band is releasing their debut track I Want The World on August 26th, 2022. The track is a narrative inspired by the poem written by William Blake's Auguries of Innocence, wherein the poet describes the idea that any little thing in the world i.e. a grain of sand contains some sort of greater cosmic truth if you look at it with enough energy and imagination.

Electric Temples isn't stopping with just recording music though. The band’s lead singer David Rea wrote the idea behind their music video and the band and their partners are filming it with some friends.

“I think that to write a song like I Want the World could be misinterpreted as some sort of narcissistic message. Which is why we thought if we did the music video ourselves, we could show that we are just five guys that have been practicing in our drummer Andre Jerard’s lounge with no budget and we want to play music, have fun and we don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

David Rea has already had some local success, with his solo album release in 2020, Time. This found him interviewed on RNZ, getting featured on NZ Hatchlings Spotify playlist and played on student radio through RDU.

“We have some great guys in this band with low egos and high work ethic. Shannyn Miller [Bass] is always up for banter. He helps with all of the Social Media side of things. Kaelan and Isaac, our guitarists, both have great ears and are awesome at helping with the mixing. So we make a pretty cohesive team.”

Electric Temples are taking to the stage on August 26th at Lyttelton’s Wunderbar, with support from local band, Rust.
