Christchurch based producer and songwriter Charles Aston (Harrison Fann) establishes his sound on the new track Pedestal. After a two-year hiatus from releasing music, Pedestal is a breath of fresh air for Charles Aston.

The production on Pedestal blends acoustic, electric, and bass guitars with booming electronic production to create an exceptionally unique track. Pedestal is a coming together of worlds for Aston. The track takes his love for classic instrumentation and combines it with modern electronic production. Drawing influences from Kanye West, Robbie Williams, Finneas, Giveon and Frank Ocean Charles Aston incorporates a broad musical palette throughout his music.

Pedestal is a track about breaking through the barriers we place on ourselves. Speaking on the song Aston explains, “Pedestal is about where I want to be versus where I'm currently at. The song is about how I put myself on a pedestal (mentally) because I believe I will fulfil my potential in what I am most passionate about, but knowing I haven’t. I will be on the pedestal standing tall, I’m just not there yet.”

With production guidance from Kamandi and Sacha Vee, Pedestal was mixed by Dan Martin from Five AM studios. Pedestal was an 18 month-long journey for Aston. Originally written post-lockdown in 2018, Aston wanted to ensure the release was perfect.

Charles Aston reintroduces himself with the introspective new single Pedestal. Pedestal is an introspective piece of song-writing for Aston, as he overcomes self-doubt and anxiety. Speaking on the song Aston explains, “The lyrics started from an argument with my little brother about him not believing in what I’m creating and me having to come to grips with that and focus on why I’m making music.”

Heading into 2022 Charles Aston plans to continue releasing a series of singles. A music video filmed in the heart of Christchurch and a lyric video filmed on the Routeburn Track in Fiordland National Park will be released following the single.

Pedestal is an enchanting release for Charles Aston and marks the producer/ songwriter as one to pay attention to.

Pedestal will be released on all platforms on Friday 5th November 2021
