Live Nation & Vodafone’s Fresh Monthly Artist Announced As Psychedelic Dream Rockers Juno Is

01 September 2021 - 0 Comments

The first of the month brings a brand-new Live Nation & Vodafone Ones to Watch artist, with psychedelic dream rockers Juno Is announced as the next act. Fronted by Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Hollebon, the young artist burst onto the indie rock scene in 2019, now being recognised as the eighth Ones To Watch artist of 2021.

Hailing from Dunedin, the classic sound of Otepoti is present in her music, with dreamy rock psychedelics, memorable guitar riffs, and captivating music and lyrics. Accompanied by a five-piece band, their music is reminiscent of musical legends such as MGMT, King Krule and Tame Impala.

Starting out as a drummer and transitioning into a frontwoman, Juno Is are making their mark on the Kiwi music scene. On moving from drumming to being behind the microphone, Mac says: “Because I’m such an introverted person, it definitely came to points where I’d clash with people when I was drumming, and I just felt like I needed full independence to fully be satisfied with my creativity.”

Juno Is released their debut EP Creature of Habit in 2020, which includes one of their best-known tunes, It’s No Groover. The EP encompasses Mac’s raw writing style, which coupled with her dreamy vocals and addictive synths has transformed her sound and left fans excited for more. Earlier in January they released Floating Alone, the first single off their upcoming album. While the recording of their debut album is underway, Mac comments, “I don’t want to rush the album at all... It’s been a big dream of mine – my whole musical career – and I want to do it right.”

Juno Is have taken the music scene by storm around the country. As well as playing at Live Nation & Vodafone’s Ones to Watch artists showcase back in May, the band have opened for Live Nation touring artists Wax Mustang, Daffodils and Australian indie rock legends The Chats. They also embarked on their own summer tour in January 2021, to delighted crowds.
