Multi-instrumentalist / singer-songwriter MC Phanny (aka Sophie Cooper) sent a blessing to this world on September 24th with her debut single Magic Potions.
The seductive blend of MC Phanny’s soulful RnB flavours with Deazy’s iconic hip-hop drums and flows, makes for music that is refreshing, revitalising and best served LOUD.
In collaboration with Poneke hip-hop heavy weight Raw Deazy, the pair have created something sweet and sexy, and truly slapping.! Bathe in her warm waves of harmonies, and get lost in the Magic Potions. The song was recorded in Phanny's home studio in the 2020 lockdown, and mixed & mastered by Simon Blackwell (Matrix Studios).
This collaboration showcases the song writing and musical experience of duo dream-team;
MC Phanny is the leader and songwriter of the Wellington roots / soul band Dr Reknaw, who have released an EP, an album, and toured NZ extensively. 20,000 streams a month on Spotify, and festival favourites, already a crowd pleaser, this project showcases her song writing skills one step further...
With Raw Deazy who is much the same, as the founder, emcee and producer of Wellington’s Raw Collective, another crowd favourite, having toured for years - NZ and Australia, several album releases, bunches of top ten radio singles & 700,000+ Spotify streams, these two are a collaboration scorned from their vast musical experience, individually well known and good friends, this single gives a taste of the two underground giants colliding into songwriting bliss.
The video was filmed in August 2020, in a friend's basement in Newtown. It is enchanting, dark, humorous, bubbly, with a healthy sprinkling of magic.
