Music News - It’s country time again on Norfolk

12 April 2007 - 0 Comments

Travel to Norfolk Island at the end of May and you’ll get to see the best country music around.

There’s a big Kiwi contingent at this year’s 14th annual Norfolk Island Country Music Festival taking place Sunday 27 May to Sunday 3 June. Two package tours led by New Zealand country legends Brendan Dugan and Dennis Marsh are on offer to the festival.

Headlining the festival are New Zealand comedy music duo The Topp Twins who are backed by The Cattlestops and Eddie Lowe and two leading Aussie country stars.

Exclusive New Zealand travel packages with Dugan and Marsh start at less than $1,7001 for seven days with a Country Music Gold Pass an additional $301. They include twin-share accommodation, return airfares, airfare taxes, seven days car hire and transfers.

The celebrity-led tours also comprise a number of extra-mural activities accompanied by the tour leaders and include an island style fish fry, a themed or progressive dinner and other activities.

Non-accompanied travel packages start at $1,385 per person [1] and include twin-share accommodation, return airfares, airfare taxes, seven days car hire, transfers and more.

The festival is always hugely popular with Kiwi fans and Air New Zealand has added an extra flight to cope with expected demand.

The 13th Trans-Tasman Entertainer of the Year Awards – with a prize pool of $7,000 – are also being handed out at the Norfolk Island Country Music Festival. Last year’s winner Briana Lee is on the bill this year as one of the event’s highlighted performers.

Perennial Kiwi favourites The Topp Twins’ roots are deeply New Zealand and they are billed as headliners for the country music festival. The duo’s latest recording ‘Grass Highway’ offers a new earthy cocktail of roots-style music with blues, love ballads, rockabilly and some sweet sounding yodels.

New Zealand guest artists The Cattlestops are from the Kapiti Coast and play a Western Swing style of country music. Fellow guest Eddie Lowe is not only one of the doyens of New Zealand country music but also one of the nation’s most versatile entertainers.

Australian guest stars at the festival are Amber Lawrence and Paul Costa.
