Abby Wolfe sticks up a middle finger to judgy critics on her new single 'Take It Slow'

Dunedin singer-songwriter Abby Wolfe is back with a new tune Take It Slow - the next single from her upcoming debut EP.

Listen to Take It Slow HERE

On the surface Take It Slow is a fun and bouncy song that transports us right back to summer. But listen carefully to the lyrics and it touches on something deeper.

“I started writing Take It Slow in my bedroom when I was living in Auckland and the first verse poured out of me. I was feeling out of place as an artist in the industry. ‘I don’t look the part, I don’t write the right lyrics, I’m too this; too that’,” explains Abby.

“So it’s fundamentally a middle finger to the people that say you’re not how you should be. It’s a reminder to take a step back from the judgement and opinions and do you, even if no one else is advocating for you.”

Abby brought the track to life in the studio with producer duo Ambian & Sleo and also ran it by her good friend Ash Wallace from Foley, who helped bring some “melodic spice and lyrical finesse”.

Take It Slow follows the 2020 release of Abby’s powerhouse ballad Held By You, which she also recorded and filmed as a live version at Dunedin’s stunning St Paul’s Cathedral. Watch here

Abby is an accomplished songwriter, with a voice that stops you in your tracks. She’s worked alongside the likes of local legends Josh Fountain and Djeisan Suskov as well as international writers such as Emily Warren and Maize Olinger.
