TOI ramp up to EP release with new disco-fuelled single 'Chameleon'

30 April 2021 - 0 Comments

Kiwi six-piece TOI are warming fans up with a new single, Chameleon, ahead of the release of their upcoming self-titled EP.

Listen to Chameleon HERE

A feel-good, funk-laden, disco-fuelled track, Chameleon showcases a new sonic side to the talented band from Wellington. “With this song we tried to grab hold of that euphoric feeling you get when you’re having a great time, and then pulling someone else into that bubble with you,” says TOI’s lead singer Conway Jeune.

With Devin Abrams (Drax Project, Pacific Heights, ex-Shapeshifter) at the helm as executive producer and Neil MacLeod as co-producer, Chameleon combines indie-pop sensibilities with the sound of a cracking live band that’s earned their stripes sharing stages across Australasia with the likes Ocean Alley, Tash Sultana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fat Freddy’s Drop, L.A.B and Troy Kingi.

“It’s super upbeat and fun. We’ve got elements of pop, funk, soul and the brightness from the horns in the post chorus. It’s really just meant to make you feel good and dance,” says Conway.

Chameleon is the third single from TOI’s (formerly known as Tunes Of I) new EP set for release soon. It follows the silky, soulful I Want You and the chilled out Thinking Too Much.

“We feel that [Chameleon] nicely represents the general vibe for the rest of the EP. Upbeat, slick and colourful,” says Conway.

Fans can expect the video for Chameleon to drop in the next few weeks and should keep their eyes and ears peeled on socials for more exciting news from TOI.

After cementing themselves in New Zealand’s live music scene, the Wellington-based signalled a time of growth and a change of musical direction last year when they announced they were shortening their name from Tunes of I to TOI (as they’ve been affectionately known by fans for a while now). Originally brought together by their love of eclectic and far-reaching music, it’s each individual’s unique style and musical taste that is at the core of TOI’s unique sound. Now a new chapter in the band’s journey is unfolding, with the release of their highly-anticipated EP just around the corner.
