Auckland Surf-Rock Band Park Rd Showcased As Live Nation And Vodafone’s New 'Ones To Watch'

18 December 2020 - 0 Comments

Live Nation and Vodafone introduce local indie band Park Rd as their new Ones To Watch featured artist. Ones To Watch New Zealand is a new online destination for Kiwi music fans to discover their new favourite musicians, with twelve handpicked local artists highlighted over the course of the year.

West Auckland band Park Rd, whose surf-rock music is inspired by the world around them, met at high school. Following the release of their debut EP Sandcastles and recent performances at Auckland’s Tuning Fork and Whammy Bar, Park Rd is set to tour the New Zealand festival circuit this summer, including a performance at Rhythm & Vines.

Music and culture website Happy Mag described their latest single Golden as “sweltering and overflowing with nostalgia, the single’s air-tight rhythms and considered choruses are a testament to the group’s sonic versatility.”

Mark Kneebone, Managing Director of Live Nation New Zealand: Park Rd’s talent has been evident since their first releases, reflected in their placing as national finalists in 2019’s Smokefree Rockquest competition. The band excelled when they supported Australian indie-act Spacey Jane in December of 2019, and have continued to build an engaged fan base throughout this year.”

Ones To Watch launched in the United States in 2017, with an impressive list of now household names launching their career through the platform, including Halsey and Dua Lipa. Park Rd is the third featured artist on New Zealand’s Ones To Watch platform, after Wellington’s indie-pop sensation RIIKI and Auckland-based electronic duo Imugi.

After launching an exclusive long-term partnership in 2019, Live Nation Australasia and Vodafone New Zealand have provided Vodafone customers access to Live Nation’s entertainment portfolio including music, family and comedy tours and festivals across the country. The strategic multi-year partnership is committed to bringing the best live experiences to New Zealand and the best New Zealand artists to the world. The unique emerging talent platform of Ones To Watch builds on this strong partnership and a mutual dedication to support grassroots initiatives.

As well as access to the online platform, Vodafone customers will be given the chance to win tickets to the Ones To Watch invitation-only quarterly showcase events. More info and competition details available at: vodafonerewards.co.nz
