Music News - Auckland artist Levyne soars on new track 'Misconceptions'

Up-and-coming New Zealand singer and songwriter Levyne has released her new single Misconceptions – a self-empowerment anthem, which arrives just in time for summer. The video is premiering now on RNZ Music.

Seamlessly blending a mix of modern and 80s elements, which a fresh pop energy, Misconceptions is a warm and reflective track evoking a sense of hopefulness.
“Ultimately it’s about a relationship ending with each person having a different side to the story,” says Levyne. “But it serves as a realisation that it’s not worth spending your time stressing about people that don’t want to understand your perspective.”
“It was quite a liberating song to write - to draw a bit of a line in the sand and express that enough was enough!”
With nostalgic synths on top of a strong, percussive drum beat, production on Misconceptions was largely done by olympus (AKA Daniel Martin) with Rory Noble then doing additional production.
The song is accompanied by a striking video, made by Oscar Keys, in which bright colours and dramatic stares are intertwined with Levyne softly dancing to the music as things are set alight – symbolic of moving on.
“The messy, artistic nature of the video - as opposed to a story piece - was to tie into the topic of differing perceptions on things,” she explains. “We tried to mess it up and inject colour as much as possible, to speak to that and to convey the emotions.”
Levyne has been making waves in the local music scene since the release of her debut single Misfit in 2018. This year she has also delivered her EP, Being Low, which included the songs Look At Me, Pause and If You Want. She also recently received the Spotify/NZ on Air Independent Artist Fund.
In between lockdowns in Auckland, Levyne has still managed to play shows, supporting the likes of Daffodils and Foley. This coming summer, she will be performing at one of New Zealand’s biggest festivals, Rhythm and Vines.Misconceptions is supported by NZ on Air.
