Music News - New Song to be released by JP & The Drag Kings

New Song to be released by JP & The Drag Kings

22 September 2020 - 0 Comments

Killer Stripper is about a woman's obsession with a pole dancer, where she describes her fantasies in juicy detail, stemming from the English idiom “If looks could kill”- including smell, touch, taste, and visual depictions. The debut invokes girl on girl sensualism from a masculine 'Cock Rock' perspective.

With a majority of the New Zealand Rock scene is focused on Heavy and Indie -  JP & The Drag Kings aim to bridge the Classic Rock 'gap' with crunchy tones, strong hooks, graphic lyrics, and vocal prowess. Influenced by timeless acts before them, this single invokes 80’s Rock nostalgia.

Not only does the true attitude of the song punch through in this recording (engineered by Karl Apao of Soundkard Productions), but their live performance is a cabaret of showmanship, musical ability & audience engagement.

Killer Stripper is a homage to the classic tones of 80’s Rock - with a soulful punch, sensory rhymes, and erotic infusion, all wrapped up into a roaring final chorus, and considering the deep bowels of classic rock, these guys (and gal) are the perfect prescription for nostalgic appetites.

According to Jayde, she managed to smash the main vocal out in the first take however, the pitched screams "took a couple of takes to get right".

A last-minute decision was made by Jayde to record the 'fuzzy' second guitar layer in the final chorus which she recorded herself at home. This adds another well-suited texture and helps bring that "oomph" to the song's finale.

Killer Stripper is set for release on 27 September 2020.

Coming Up: Next on the agenda is their gig with Louder Louder on 23 of October at local stomping ground Nivara Lounge, also, their second single is due for release this December of an erotic Funk number - Jameson Man - a crowd favourite.

They are also opening for Fred next year on 13 January, also at Nivara Lounge.
