SkeletonCrew Release 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' Cover

24 June 2020 - 0 Comments

SkeletonCrew decided to cover one of their favourite songs during lockdown and add a few twists of their own. Bang Bang tells the tale of childhood sweethearts playing cowboys as kids. The girl sings about always being the one who got shot down. The two grow up and get married, but he leaves her with no explanation. One last time, she is metaphorically shot down. The combination of melancholic guitar and soft vocals are very evocative and haunting.

Bang Bang was originally written by Sonny Bono and recorded by Cher, but Nancy Sinatra’s version gained popularity after featuring in ‘Kill Bill’.

SkeletonCrew is a new Alternative Music project by musician/composer Felix Danilo and vocalist Nicole Obren. The two met after taking joint guitar lessons in Kerikeri from the age of twelve. They didn’t say a word to each other for the first year but now it’s hard to shut them up!

Both Felix and Nicole have played in larger bands, and SkeletonCrew is a departure from relying on extra band members. As a skeleton crew, they create all the music with just the two of them and are enjoying the creative freedom. Felix creates the concepts, weaving themes together with a variety of instruments. Nicole provides a story with her lyrics, evoking a range of emotions with her smooth vocals.

After their years of guitar study, Felix and Nicole hold Musical Performance Diplomas in Electric Guitar from the London College of Music, and Felix is currently working on his Licentiate (LLCM). Nicole only recently discovered her natural vocal ability and now prefers singing to playing, but often does both.

It’s Better I Don’t Know, SkeletonCrew’s debut album, including the singles Synthia and Stay, was released on April 10 across all major platforms and gained some impressive reviews. The album was designed to flow creatively, with tracks occasionally interspersed with musical interludes and enhanced with everyday sounds.

“World class skills and extraordinary creative vision… A stunning debut.” (Muzic.net.nz)
