PolarisRadio Announces New Synthwave/Electronic Rock Album 'Deadline'

08 June 2020 - 0 Comments

PolarisRadio has rebooted and reconfigured, bringing with him a brand new album - Deadline. This huge forthcoming record is a follow-up to Virtual Paradise (2019) and is highly anticipated throughout the New Zealand synthwave community. Deadline is set for release on July 10, 2020.

PolarisRadio wrote and recorded Deadline at his home-studio in Napier, and has collaborated over the internet with 4 other artists - 1 locally, and 3 based in Wellington. Deadline therefore features the vocals of An Electric Heart (Luke Pell) and Aidan Verity, in addition to an epic instrumental collaboration with StrayLight (Alastair Parkkali) and a remix of PolarisRadio's 2019 Halloween Single Labyrinthine from Bzzrkr (Brad Gallen).

Deadline is composed of 13 tracks that span from heavy guitar riffs and wailing solos, to high-energy electronic pop, dreamy synth ambience, romantic saxophone and nostalgic 80's summer vibes. It is a wildly varied album that presents itself as a the soundtrack for an 80's action movie that doesn't exist - but one that you could very likely imagine in your head as you hear the music. The artwork features a colourful city skyline, with a simple tagline: "Your car is stolen and your girlfriend kidnapped. You have until sunrise to save them both."

Since Virtual Paradise, PolarisRadio has wanted to expand his sound, "The first three records were all part of an overarching concept about a trio of future supercities - all a bit dystopian, but in different ways. I felt a bit tied down by these concepts and wanted to start a new project that was totally separate from my other releases. It's like a reboot of my themes, but keeping my same sound."

And for the first time, PolarisRadio has openly collaborated with other artists, "I really wanted to bring vocals into the mix, but my voice isn't very strong - but I'd been meaning to work with Luke for quite a while, and this seemed like a great time. Similarly, with Aidan - I stumbled across her on a Facebook group and thought she had an absolutely lovely voice. I've also been wanting to work with Alastair and Brad for a long time - Alastair and I talked about a collab well over a year ago and it's finally come to fruition. And I thought Brad would be able to do something amazing with my 2019 single Labyrinthine - it's already my darkest track, and he's made it even darker and far more intense."

PolarisRadio is currently planning some supporting shows around Deadline - 'Like' him on Facebook to make sure you're on top of any news in this area and he has a massive show planned in his hometown of Napier on October 9. Revitalised and rebooted, PolarisRadio is moving from strength to strength and he can’t wait to release his new album into the world.
