Makeshift Parachutes announce new album 'The Daily Absurd', with New Zealand tour dates

08 October 2019 - 0 Comments

Heavy Auckland-based psych-rock quartet Makeshift Parachutes are proud to announce the release of their full-length album The Daily Absurd. Following a consecutive string of singles, including their most recent release Be Kind Rewind, Ferrari Gosling and non-album track The Hole, the Kiwi-American group will release their debut full-length on November 1st independently through DRM.

Supporting the release, Makeshift Parachutes will bring their heavy hitting psychedelia to the lengths of the North Island during early 2018 on their Daily Absurd Tour. The band will visit Hastings, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland.

Taking shape in the group’s A-frame shaped studio (which features in the cover art), the eight track opus collects the dusty remnants of millennial anxiety, surviving the 9-to-5 grind and navigating an unsettling socio-economic time. Forming like a lenticular cloud, each track grows over lush synthesized soundscapes supported by riff-heavy guitar and bass lines from the O’Connor brothers (Sharif O’Connor and Daniel O’Connor). All of this is carried along by the propulsive kit work of Arthur Brewer, while coming to life through the words that escape frontman and lead vocalist Chris McCollum’s glacial vocals.

The Daily Absurd was recorded, mixed and mastered by Olly Harmer at The Lab.

Together, the four-piece project a frenetic live chemistry which they output over the eight track album; a compelling energy they have become well-known for around the Auckland gig scene, where they have packed out venues such as Neck of the Woods and The Wine Cellar.
