Gig & Concert News - Splore announces eclectic line up

Splore announces eclectic line up

19 September 2013 - 0 Comments

Splore’s theme ‘more to love at Splore’  is brought to life with a second line up announcement that features flamboyant artists, poets and theatre groups for the 14-16 February 2014 event.

It includes UK cultural phenomenon, Ebony Bones, who has a stage presence reminiscent of Grace Jones. Music commentators dub her “the Karen O of London” and “the Lil Kim of Hoxton”.  The punk electro artist has just released her sophomore album “Behold a Pale Horse” which The Independent (UK) recently described as a perfect fusion of These New Puritans and Transglobal Underground, and “everything people say MIA is”. Despite the comparisons, Ebony Bones is unique.

Other acts announced include UK soul artist Alice Russell who is described as a force of nature. Her powerful soul voice has attracted rave reviews from numerous national and international publications and praise from fans as diverse as Gilles Peterson, David Byrne, Dennis Coffey, Massive Attack’s Daddy G, and Groove Armada.

Brighton DJ and producer Adam Freeland makes his debut at Splore. The electronica breakbeat supremo will bring his signature sounds to the beach for a late night set.

Adam’s critically acclaimed debut album, Now and Them featured hit single “We Want your Soul” and his remix of Sarah Vaughan’s “Fever” was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Jungle pioneers The Ragga Twins complete the line up out of the UK with firecracker Hackney party duo, MC’s Deman Rockers and Flinty Badman. They will be accompanied by DJ Krucial.

New Zealand music to join the eclectic line up is Wellington Balkan gypsy brass band Niko ne Zna, Auckland’s dance favourite Latinaotearoa plus DJ’s Aroha, Hudge, Regrooved Sound System, Andy JV, Bobby Brazuka, Mikki Dee, Isaac Aesili and Mark Pickering.

Splore has a dedicated performance space ‘The Living Lounge’ as well as performance acts that can be happened upon while out and about at the festival. Performance and music acts confirmed for the Living Lounge include New Zealand’s best known poet Sam Hunt and Binge Culture who were dubbed one of the country's “most exciting, direct and original theatre companies." - NZ Herald, 28/20/13.  The band Drab Doo Riffs also bring their sound to the Living Lounge. More music and performance acts along with visual artists will be announced in October 2013.
