Gig & Concert News - Iva Lamkum & Bella Kalolo - one night only!

Iva Lamkum & Bella Kalolo - one night only!

07 May 2012 - 0 Comments

Hot of their recent nominations in the Pacific Music Awards (both for Best Female), for the very first time and for one night only in Wellington, Iva Lamkum and Bella Kalolo join forces to put on what will be a fun filled night of funk soul sista amazing-ness!

Iva Lamkum - Recently named one of the thirteen top global divas by MTV Iggy (US), Iva Lamkum has enjoyed critical support here and abroad, including a placement on influential music blog RCRD LBL. Along the way she’s received nominations for not only the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll, but also the Vodafone NZ Music Awards People's Choice award, and chalked up considerable rotate time on radio playlists across the country.

“For those who miss Amy Winehouse's alto blues pipes, try the New Zealand-based,Samoan/Chinese singer Iva Lamkum on for size.” – MTV Iggy

“Iva first came to my attention on Sola Rosa’s fantastic Get It Together from 2009. Hearing lead single ‘Turn Around’ for the first time I was instantly hooked … who was the lady with the husky, soulful, funk-tinged voice?” – Soul:UK

Bella Kalolo -  Last year was an industrious and productive year for Bella -  she supported Fat Freddy’s Drop on The Road to Opononi Tour, international hip hop star Mos Def, performed at the renowned Glastonbury Festival, Origins Festival (UK), City of London Festival as well as performances in NYC, Boston and Rorotonga. Bella released her debut album 'Without The Paper' in September and is currently looking forward to releasing the album in France.  2012 has been equally busy with preparations for a new EP, performances all over the country as well as Bella's third consecutive nomination at the Pacific music awards.

With the live and super-tight accompaniment of the band she calls the Soul Symphony, she comes across like one of James Brown’s funky divas. It really might be some lost vinyl nugget from the 70s, capturing that feeling with as much authenticity as a retro-soulster like Sharon Jones. Nick Bollinger Radio New Zealand Review
