Greg Johnson to release new album 'Thunder In Fall' on Friday 23 February

Greg Johnson Music is delighted to announce the release of award-winning singer-songwriter Greg Johnson's 13th studio album, Thunder In Fall, which will be released (initially) via streaming services on February 23rd, 2024.

A single, Rooster Tail, has already been released (December 2023) to great acclaim. In only four short weeks the track has already become one of Johnson’s best-performing streamed songs.

Thunder In Fall is an atmospheric and, at times, dark album about which Johnson says “I bought an old upright piano for two hundred dollars, sight unseen. It turned out to be a beautiful American Baldwin, with a wonderful sound. So I decided to build the album around 5 main elements: the piano, analogue synth, a classic 808 drum machine, trumpet and voices.”

The album has been recorded at Johnson’s new Los Angeles-based recording studio and features a number of other well-known musicians – some familiar to Greg Johnson fans, and others very welcome new additions. Ted Brown, Ben King and Mark Hughes, Johnson’s regular musical cohort, appear on the album.

Thunder in Fall also features legendary English singer Julia Fordham. Johnson comments “Working with Julia was amazing. She’s got such a distinctive voice and as a writer, she really pushed me to get to the heart of the subject.”

Also contributing to the album is Grammy award-winning Caribbean guitar virtuoso Steve Katz. Johnson goes on to say “Steve Katz was in the studio working on another album which I was producing. He took time out to play an incredible nylon string guitar on the track 'Grasslands'. I swear he could make a washing line sound virtuoso. He’s a guitar god!”

Greg Johnson concludes “I’m really pleased with this album. It’s close to the sound I’ve been trying to achieve my whole career.”

Johnson will be touring New Zealand in March, to support the release of the new record.
