Twominds Festival launches as Ōtautahi’s newest dance music spectacle

26 January 2023 - 0 Comments

On Saturday 18th February 2023, Ōtautahi Christchurch will see the launch of a new dance music celebration: Twominds Festival. The event hones in on the ever growing global phenomenon of house and techno music in the picturesque location of Spencer Beach Holiday Park.

With over thirty artists in total, international heavyweights DJ Boring & HAAi will join some of New Zealand's best DJ’s across the dance music spectrum, including Atarangi, Bontempo, Frank Booker, Christopher Tubbs, Half Queen, Keepsakes & Willo. Performing alongside over twenty local artists and presented in collaboration with Christchurch dance collectives, Club Unique, Craigslist, Flux, Sugar & Spice, Southern Selects & TyanHaus.

Designed as an “adventure of an experience”, the event will feature three smaller stages with hopes to spread out and diversify the attendee experience. The concept revolves around the idea of bringing together the small yet prominent local dance music collectives to create a more significant collaborative event. A festival that showcases the identity of Ōtautahi and its thriving creative community.

“Twominds is just one of many groups in the music/events/creative community here in Christchurch. We are one part of an ecosystem that coordinates events with the purpose of facilitating creative expression, while also providing a safe and inclusive space for anyone who wishes to attend”. - Corban Tupou (Festival Director).

“Ever since the beginning, we've had the intention of creating environments that influence the way people think - while at our events, and even after they've left. I guess we’re just trying to have a positive effect on the people who interact with what we do.” - Dan Stewart (Festival Director).

Twominds Festival will take place at Spencer Beach Holiday Park, a unique venue in the middle of a 70 hectare forested reserve. Where festival-goers will have the option to camp on-site or stay in the park's accommodation facilities. Outside of the dancefloors, attendees can expect to explore a range of art and interactive activities to be enjoyed in the open air, or otherwise will find a quieter moment in the shade under the trees to enjoy the range of food/drink on offer.

The event plans to grow in future years and become a recurring highlight in the Christchurch summer event calendar as a one-day festival with a fresh and unique perspective on the curation of dance music experiences.

“After growing up in a small rural town, I found that the music scene was a totally new world - progressive, open-minded, and accepting. Those are some of the values that attracted me to dance music, and we try our hardest to make sure those same values are felt at our events.” - Dan Stewart (Festival Director).

Twominds is an event promotion collective that was founded in 2019 by a group of friends wanting to create unique experiences centered around high quality music and art.

Over the last three years Twominds has grown into a recognisable brand, hosting a variety of music events around Aotearoa. Having hosted events in Taupō, Gisborne, Tauranga, Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Queenstown, and Wānaka - with the strongest presence in Christchurch where the brand originated.

Twominds has been invited to perform and support major festivals such as Rhythm & Vines, Nest Fest, Tora Bombora, Le Currents, Nostalgia Festival and Baseline. The group aims to take influence from their broad experience in music events, and bring it all back home to Ōtautahi/Christchurch in the form of a unique event experience; Twominds Festival.
