Gig & Concert News - New Lake South Album Out Today

New Lake South Album Out Today

18 September 2021 - 0 Comments

Home Alone Music is proud to present The Light You Throw – the third album from Te Whanganui-a-Tara based electricUTOPIA songwriter Lake South. The album was written in the midst of Aotearoa's (first) Level-4 lockdown and recorded at a rented house in Waikawa beach, Marty’s place in Takapau, Avalon Studios (drums), and Lake’s flat.

From the anxiety of the pandemic comes a record full of hope, joy and defiance. Expertly crafted odes to friends, the cities they live in, and the futures they strive for.

This collection follows 2017's If You're Born On An Island the Ocean Heals You and the follow-up, Wellington | Te Upoko O Te Ika, in late 2019. Both records were critically acclaimed with Graham Reid calling Lake an electro-folk poet of his doubting generation.

Lake South has again created a beautiful physical artifact to accompany the album. The Light You Throw releases with a collection of lyrics, essays, conversations and photographs. The book was printed, spliced, bound, glued and trimmed at Rebel Press in Te Whanganui-a-Tara by Achilles & Sasha (5ever books) and Lake. Sam Fraser designed it and Hamish Johns took the photos.

Lake South has toured Canada, Aotearoa, and was booked to play at SXSW 2020 before the world changed. The current line-up features Theo Sekeris (Ras Judah, Rubita) on bass, Eddie Crawshaw (Sheep Dog & Wolf, Bonaparte) on drums, and Penelope Esplin (French for Rabbits, Grawlixes) on harmonies and synths.

Lake South have also released a video for the new single Hope and the Light You Throw today. Watch here.
