Daniel Armstrong & The Monsoons Reveal Album 'Everything Is As It Shouldn’t Be'

11 June 2021 - 0 Comments

Daniel Armstrong & The Monsoons are proud to share their second full-length record, Everything Is As It Shouldn’t Be, an open-hearted 11-track offering, featuring the very best of Armstrong's quirky, beautiful and honest songwriting that touches on early Flaming Lips.

London born, New Zealand-based, indie/alternative song writer Armstrong, claims that a lot has changed since the band’s last record, with new and old love, the birth of his baby, betrayal, severed fingers, forgiveness and revenge, and this has been the inspiration behind Everything Is As It Shouldn’t Be. A commentary on living in an anti-culture bubble in a world that is obsessed with life in a digital landscape, the album touches on Armstrong’s feeling of an unknown future, where technology has taken over a big part of the human existence.

Speaking of the recording and writing process Daniel says, “This album was mentally challenging. Every time we got somewhere we got dragged back. I realised the whole world was going through it way worse than us and we were lucky enough to have amazing people around us in New Zealand. It was almost about not forgetting that the world outside of New Zealand is going through a really dark time...

I've never been very good at ignoring that and just writing about love or snails”

The album takes inspiration from Bob Dylan, Talking Heads, Claude Debussy, Velvet Underground, Radiohead, to mention a few. The live shows thus far have been unpredictable. You may expect a calm string arrangement around Armstrong's vocals, or an angry, energetic burst live show to a backdrop of 1930's film.

They’ll be celebrating their album release on June 19th at The Thirsty Dog, with tickets available from Under The Radar.

One moment you’ll be caught inside a frenzied burst of old-school rock n’ roll, and the next you’ll be floating through a dark and cinematic slice of country-tinged goth-rock. The result is one of the most dynamic listening experiences we’ve come across in some time” – Happy Mag
