Gig & Concert News - Christchurch's Pickle Darling announces 12 date NZ Tour

Christchurch's Pickle Darling announces 12 date NZ Tour

23 April 2021 - 0 Comments

A month out from album release Pickle Darling releases one more single and announces their first ever headline tour of Aotearoa/NZ.

something big is coming my way, been standing in the supermarket line all day is a line from Pickle Darling’s new single Boundless My Heart. Refreshingly simple but relatable observations of life are becoming a trademark of Lukas Mayo’s (Pickle Darling) acute songwriting however Mayo is quick to assure this is “definitely not” a lockdown song, reflecting, "This was originally meant to be like a country song but I don’t what the hell happened to it, now it’s kind of the danciest track on the album. I think of it as my Charli XCX song, and it was the first time I really tried experimenting with cutting up my vocals and making loops and stuff.

This will be the first time playing shows for Pickle Darling since their support slots for friends, The Beths, late 2020. Mayo effuses “I am super excited to play these songs around New Zealand! I had to cancel my last tour so technically this is my first time doing a headline tour, ever. As well as the first time visiting some of these smaller towns!

Pickle Darling’s upcoming album Cosmonaut finds them leaving not only the bedroom but… the atmosphere. While earlier releases Spring Onion Pancakes EP and debut album Bigness pulled from the world of mumblecore films, Cosmonaut pulls from science fiction and space travel, as seen in the album’s artwork (a tribute to the art of classic science fiction books such as Dune and The Rings of Saturn), the song titles (Achieve Lift!), and the live band’s outfits (the band wears boiler suits looking almost like a training space crew).

Support artists and more details to come.
