Alien Weaponry - Very first day back on tour Nov 2020

20 November 2020 - 0 Comments

"This is huge for us" says guitarist/singer Lewis de Jong as they traverse the road from home town Waipu to Tauranga for Alien Weaponry’s first tour in over a year.

After spending most of 2018 and 2019 touring Europe and the USA, the band says it feels surreal to be back on the road again here in New Zealand.

"It’s pretty amazing to be on the road at a time when the rest of the world is closed for Covid," says Lewis’ brother, drummer Henry de Jong. "I’m getting messages from my overseas mates in touring bands saying how jealous they are that we get to be touring again."

The band have been making the best of Covid lockdowns, having spent a good part of 2020 writing and recording their second album; which is due for release in the first half of next year.

There have been some changes in the past year, with original bassist Ethan Trembath being replaced by the band’s long time friend Turanga Morgan-Edmonds; and the band signing with new management, LA-based Rick Sales Entertainment.

These are unusual times for the music industry and the band admits to a little nervousness around how things are going to go in the Covid-19 climate with its threat of lockdowns.

"Ticket sales have been steady, but we are definitely expecting a rush at the last minute and quite a few door sales," says promoter Adam Findlay. "Shows will definitely sell out."

The band are booked on a number of big festivals in Europe and the USA for 2021; and is hoping the world will be back to something resembling normality by the time their album hits.

Alien Weaponry’s Level One Tour starts today:

Tauranga Fri 20 Nov

Hamilton Sat 21 Nov

Christchurch Fri 27 Nov

Dunedin Sat 28 Nov

Wellington Thur 3 Dec

Auckland Sat 5 Dec
