Hummucide announces self-titled EP out October 16th on all platforms

05 October 2020 - 0 Comments

After the amazing reception of their first two singles Reacher and 8 Mullups, Hummucide are finally able to announce their debut EP - aptly entitled Hummucide.

With 8 Mullups recently hitting 30,000 streams on Spotify and both songs placing highly in the SRN charts around the country, Hummucide were pleasantly surprised with how their instrumental tunes were received both in their home of Aotearoa and abroad.

This EP is made up of Hummucide’s oldest songs, some dating back to high school where Ben, Toby and Hugo met. These songs have been refined over the years through gigs at house parties, venues and festivals around the country and therefore are very special to the band. When they met their fourth member Lennox at Jazz school, there was an instant musical connection which the four have strengthened ever since.

The EP release will be celebrated at Bats Theatre in Wellington on the 16th of October, with a unique performance in the amazing Dome Theatre within

Born out of the thriving music scene in Te Aro, Wellington, Hummucide is a four-piece minimalist-rock-jazz group. Influenced equally by the American jazz tradition and the British jazz resurgence, they draw their inspiration from whatever catches their ear. With a huge live sound incorporating raging synths and soaring saxophone melodies, their gigs are not to be missed.

The band comprises of Toby Leman on saxophone (Dr. Reknaw, Revulva, General Vibe), Ben Stewart on keyboard and synths (Sky Canvas, Dr. Reknaw), Lennox Grootjans on drums (Dr. Reknaw) and Hugo Olsen Smith on bass (O and the Mo, Evolving Wilds). They all started out at the prestigious Te Koki NZSM, before traveling their own musical roads and coming back together to form the Hummucide sound.

The art for this project has been created by Fynn Hanson Stevens, who is an amazing artist based in Poneke.
