Gig & Concert News - Darryl Baser '#Secondselfie' Release Show This Saturday

Darryl Baser '#Secondselfie' Release Show This Saturday

29 June 2020 - 0 Comments

#Secondselfie, an album 50 years in the making, will be released by Darryl Baser this Saturday.

Dunedin musician Darryl Baser released the 5-song Bandcamp version of his second full-length album #secondselfie here on May 16th.

The album’s release comes just after Darryl turned 50, a birthday he spent half of his life not being able to see past, but that's another story.

A release party for a 12 song CD version was planned for The Galley at Port Chalmers, but the Covid 19 lockdown stopped that.

This Saturday July 4th Baser is set to take to the stage amongst a large cast of guests, with musical styles ranging from folk to indie, to electronica, as all those styles are represented on #Secondselfie.

The release party features performances from electronica producer Haszari, who’s collaboration with baser is the first song on #Secondselfie, other musicians set to play on Saturday include; Bronwyn, Jackson Caine, Paul S Allen and The Dragonfly Rustlers.

Saturday’s show, from 8pm, at the Galley in Port Chalmers features a couple of firsts for baser, including playing live with Haszari and fronting a live band for the first time in 20 years.

There will only be 50 CDs made on the first run, all featuring original artwork by Dunedin artist Sarah Flourish (the artist responsible for the artwork on 2016's #Rawselfie).

#Secondselfie follows the 2016 release on Zelle records of his debut album #Rawselfie. Whereas #Rawselfie was all recorded in single live takes to baser's LG optima cell phone, #Secondselfie is much more of a collaboration between baser and a bunch of others, including EDM producer Robots in Love, and electronic producer Haszari. There are also songs recorded with Stephen Hastie on drums, and Paul S Allen on bass.
