Rippon Festival, Lake Wanaka
Posted: Tue Oct 6, 2009 12:26 pm
With only days before tickets to the hugely popular Rippon Festival go on sale, organisers are busy preparing for the Waitangi Day event at Rippon Vineyard, Lake Wanaka.

Spokesperson Clare Scurr notes a few changes to previous events. “We have our first ever hangi for the 2010 festival, which will be onsite along with the other gorgeous food stalls.” Mrs Scurr also adds that for the first time there will be a limited number of shaded gazebos for hire at the top of the amphitheatre.

With only 4500 tickets available to the summer concert, director Lynne Christie is confident the tickets will sell well. “It’s an absolute quality line-up with many of the bands planning on adding something quite unexpected for the audience. They love coming to Wanaka and can afford to be brave because of the fantastic vibe the concert-goers bring to the day.”

The open air event has a reputation of selling out many months before the festival date.

The line-up, which features Opensouls, Fat Freddy’s Drop, The Black Seeds, Eru Dangerspiel, Minuit, The Mint Chicks, Electric Wire Hustle, Pacific Heights Live, Iva Lamkum, The Slur-Tones and Little Bushman, is to be fronted by P Digsss, who will be returning for his fifth Rippon Festival.

Warren Maxwell, front man of Little Bushman is currently preparing for a concert with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra later this month, and cites Rippon as “one of our all-time favourite festivals – we can’t wait to be back in Wanaka this summer”.

In a bid to aid relief efforts in Samoa, Christie has announced that one dollar from each ticket sold will go towards assisting affected families and rebuilding programmes, after the tsunami devastation in the country.

The tickets, which cost $118.50, go on sale on October 12th through Ticketek and Play It Again. More information is available on the website: www.ripponfestival.co.nz
