Auckland Family Blues Explosions’
Blues-tastic Lineup!

Billy T K Jnr
www.billytkjnr.com

Billy TK Jnr is recognized as a genuine guitar hero, not only in New Zealand but also internationally after having toured the United States, Australia, the Pacific and New Zealand.

Billy has worked with a number of international acts including George Thorogood, the Neville Brothers, Joe Satriani, Tommy Emmanuel, Ian Moss, Junior Wells, Willie Foster, and Wayne Toups among others.

George Thorogood was moved to comment, “I never expected him to be this good. He’s got the whole blues guitar thing completely down” - great accolades from the legend himself.

Billy has a style that has been described as “electrifying, blistering and have star quality” with a blend of great influences in his own material and covers of artists from Ben Harper to Eric Clapton.

Billy had just released his debut album in New Zealand ‘Three sides To A Mirror’, which is a melting pot of styles that also includes a unique Pacific sound and approach.

Darcy Perry
www.darcyperry.co.nz

“Perry's voice is wailing while his guitar screams, struts and cajoles the essence of the blues." Dave Burgess (Capital Times)

Darcy Perry is an entertainer with a deep understanding of the blues. He’s played with some of the world’s best and it shows, both in his rich guitar tone and electrifying stage presence.

Given a trumpet at age 7, Darcy began his music career in brass bands. In his teens he picked up bass guitar to play gigs with his brothers and local musicians. At 18, Te Kuiti High School friend, Stephen Chadwick, gifted him a Huang Star Performer. Sonny Terry was an early influence and Darcy says he's been playing those same few licks for the past two decades!
With encouragement from Bullfrog Rata, he moved from playing bass to slide guitar and later electric guitar. Perry worked alongside blues icons Bullfrog Rata, Midge Marsden and Shayn Wills, before fronting his own band in pubs and clubs around the country. Now established on the NZ festival circuit, the band is touring internationally.

STINGRAY

STINGRAY provide a powerful delivery of jump blues, driven with harmonica & the lap slide of Glenn Campbell. When STINGRAY hit the stage & start playing you will soon understand the power of the blues. The show has an energy that is well worth the effort & coming along to see them live.
Glenn Campbell is a prodigy steel guitarist. Glenn has had a very colourful career with playing with THE MISUNDERSTOOD in the 60's in California. The band moved to London in 1966. In the UK they recruited Englishman Tony Hill on guitar, thus forming an international rock group, preceding Hendrix. Influenced by the yard birds, the distinctive feature of their sound was Campbell's steel guitar. Rolling Stone Magazine (Issue 956) in a September 2, 2004 review describes the MISUNDERSTOOD'S Campbell as "Jeff Beck & Jimmy Page rolled into one"

Post Misunderstood

After the band split, Campbell was the only original member including former Bush front man, Steve Hoard on lead vocals. They opted for a pop & blues genre.

British backing musicians were hired and the name was changed to JUICY LUCY, who made the charts in UK with a standard rendition of Who Do You Love? and released two successful albums.

After the break up of JUICY LUCY Glenn was hired to play for Joe Cocker with whom he toured the US. He also played with Sammy Hagar, and with Steve Hoard, and also Rod Piazza's Dirty Blues Band.

Bullet
www.myspace.com/bulletbluesband

Bullet incorporate the searing guitar licks of B.B King and Albert Collins with the thunderous rhythms of The Fabulous Thundercats. Bullet site blues legends such as Robert Cray and Stevie Ray Vaughan as primary influences and it is apparent in the uplifting vibe of their powerful version of the blues.

The band features Craig Bracken on Vocals and Harmonica, Paul McGilly and Marcus Wilson on Guitar, David Armstrong on Drums, Nigel Bioletti on Saxophone and Fiona Condell on Bass Guitar.

Bullet are a band that have gained notoriety since their inception by regularly playing the Sunday Blues shows at the Naval and Family Tavern on K’rd. Bullet is a band that loves playing live and this is evident in their skillfully vibrant live performances.

The Midnight Blues Band
www.midnightbluesband.co.nz

The Midnight Blues Band plays a dynamically diverse style of British blues that pays kudos back to the roots of Mr. Johnson. They also draw on the feel of Freddy King, T Bone Walker, and Hendrix with an occasion subtle acknowledgement to the rocking ways of Gary Moore.
The Midnight Blues Band plays blues but rock out without hesitation. The band likes to create an environment suitable for dancing the night away. These guys are experienced but keep their ages tightly under their hats!
The Midnight Blues Band consists of the gravely voice of BG, the tasty licks of Dave Cheetham, the rock solid bass of George Komene and the flowing drums of new comer Andy.

Los Diablos
www.myspace.com/losdiablosbluesband

Los Diablos was officially formed in Auckland in April 2006. They perform up to 3hrs of material offering blues classics and bluesy numbers by artistes as varied as Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Bessie Smith, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Santana.

Since the project's inception the band has experienced more than its usual share of rock n roll ups and downs with resignations, firings, hirings and serious injury along the way. During this turbulent period a rumor spread that the band were cursed with bad luck for taking the name Los Diablos (which means The Devils in Spanish).

The current line-up have been performing together since March 07 and this rumor is now all but buried. Their new 7 track E.P. aptly titled the "Not Cursed" E.P. features 3 Los Diablos original songs and 4 of the most popular live tracks. The E.P. is currently getting extensive airplay and support from the Blues Room, and on the Crossroads blues show.
