THE SLUR-TONES ON TOUR

Three-piece Indie/alternative punk band from Wanaka are embarking on their debut national tour as they release their self-titled E.P.

Kicking off in their new hometown of Wellington on Thursday next week, The Slur-Tones will also be playing in Christchurch, Queenstown, Dunedin, Wanaka, Auckland and Napier.

Since leaving Mt Aspiring College last year, all three band members have been studying music and sound engineering in Wellington. Winning two major awards at the Smokefree Rockquest National Finals in 2008 gave enough incentive for Fabian Shaw (guitar/vocals), Yannick Weatell (bass) and Alistair Mawhinney (drums) to keep the band going, retaining the musical partnership between Shaw and Weastell that started in 2002.

When asked about their musical influences, Shaw lists “everything from Led Zeppelin to The Mint Chicks”, adding that they are ready to head out in a rented HiAce van, and share their music with the nation.

“We've had mean feedback from our live gigs, and we've learnt heaps releasing our own E.P,” says drummer Alistair Mawhinney. He adds that their main aim is to “get people on the dance floor, having a sick time”.

The tour dates are:

Thurs 25 June Bodega WELLINGTON w/ Tin Soldiers & John the Baptist
Sat 27 June Al’s Bar CHRISTCHURCH w/ Sunswitch, Blood Money & Beyond Reason
Wed 1 July Revolver QUEENSTOWN w/ Pikachunes
Thurs 2 July Sammy’s DUNEDIN w/ Biff Merchants
Fri 3 July Mint Bar WANAKA w/ Mercury Brigade
Thurs 9 July Dogs Bollix AUCKLAND w/ Sherpa
Fri 10 July Cabana NAPIER w/ Polter
