SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM ANNOUNCE POPTRONICA

After a hugely successful tour with the Big Day Out in January, Sneaky Sound System is pleased to announce dates for their New Zealand nationwide tour in April: POPTRONICA 2009 (see dates below).

Australia’s finest proponents of electro-pop have been burning up NZ radiowaves since early 2007 with their hits 'Pictures', 'I Love It' and UFO.

Three sellout shows in New Zealand last year plus headlining of the Summerdayze 08 festival have Sneaky Sound System bursting in to the live scene with a show that has garnered praise from critics and punters alike

“easily most visually entertaining set of the day. ...Playing with the energy of a kid OD’ing on Ritalin, it’s easy to see why the crowd packed in for this set” - Rip It Up (Auckland Big Day Out 09 review).

Sneaky Sound System arrive on the back of the NZ release of their sophomore album ‘2’ which debuted at #1 on the ARIA album chart. Working with Spike Stent and London’s Olympic studios of Madonna and Gwen Stefani fame, has resulted in a power house leap in production for this album. Again the album is packed full of dance pop killer tracks including the instant crowd favourite, summer sing-a-long anthem ‘16’ which is heading to radio and TV this week.

In international news, the group have been snapped up by one of the fastest rising international record labels, 14th Floor Records (Damien Rice, Ray Lamontagne and Biffy Clyro) to have their music released in the UK and Europe. The band have played the Antipodean Live Earth concert, supported Robbie Williams, Jamiroquai and Scissor Sisters and won two ARIA Awards and graced the stages at Glastonbury last year to rave reviews!

Sneaky Sound System are a pop band whose heart lies in the swirling giddy party attitude of club culture. And like all the best pop bands, they’re a team of distinct personalities and roles. Black Angus, named after a corrupt copper from Oz TV series ‘Blue Murder’, is the musical dynamo, MC Double D is the flamboyant showman with a mic – “better to be looked over than overlooked,” he says - and Connie, the front woman with the amazing voice and whose hobbies include fast cars and robot-building. Their origins lie in the hugely successful club night Sneaky Sundays, thus they make music imbued with frolicking nightlife energy but flecked with sing-along radio-friendly electro-pop.

The past 12 months have seen Sneaky Sound System selling out shows around Australia, NZ, UK and Europe.

The Poptronica Tour will see the trio return to what they love best – PLAYING THE CLUBS!

“Playing to a forest of arms, festival circuit regulars Sneaky Sound System are as good as mainstream dance/pop gets. Ultimate crowd pleasers, they roll out club staples Pictures, UFO, Goodbye and It’s Not My Problem, afro-licious singer Connie Mitchell leading a deafening choir. From the recent album 2, 16 and Kansas City firmly sit with the hook-a-rama and go down like bombs.” - Rave Magazine

A throat infection has forced Australian band Sneaky Sound System to cancel its Dunedin show and postpone shows in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch shows to May.

Vocalist Connie Mitchell continued to battle a persistent throat infection that caused the postponement of two Australian shows earlier this month, the band said today.

Medical advice recommended postponing the New Zealand shows to allow her throat to recover.

This Thursday's Dunedin show was cancelled outright due to scheduling difficulties and refunds will be available.

The shows scheduled for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch this week will be held next month.
