The Swedish Invasion Continues! From the country that brought us The Hives, Sahara Hot Nights, Millencolin and ABBA, please welcome ...

BLINDSIDE

The internationally acclaimed four-piece Swedish rock group Blindside bring
their unique live show down-under for the first time ever with an exclusive
NZ appearance at Auckland's premier rock 'n' roll venue The Kings Arms, on
Saturday 14 April 2007.

Blindside were born more than a decade ago in a snowy suburb of Stockholm. Initially inspired by American metal and grunge, as well as the burgeoning alt-rock scene in Sweden, they weren't the most accomplished musicians. Frontman Christian Lindskog laughs,

"The good thing was that we sucked equally. And we started to grow
together".

But it didn't take long for the band to find their sound. Following their first gigs at a government-run youth centre, word of mouth began to spread, and an audience quickly grew as the band hit every city and town in Sweden.
The self-financed debut 'Blindside' and its successor 'A Thought Crushed My
Mind' were both released in the US. Tour after tour ensued as Blindside built a loyal and rabid following for their powerful live performances.

The band soon found themselves signed to Elektra Records and in the studio with Howard Benson (Papa Roach, My Chemical Romance). Together they made two records - 'Silence' (2002) and 'About a Burning Fire' (2004) - debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 album chart and helping establish a worldwide fan-base, as evidenced by their 65,000+ MySpace friends.

Blindside's live show has become legendary, propelling them into the
European and North American tour circuits, and seeing them performing
alongside the likes of Hoobastank, P.O.D. and Linkin Park. Last year
Blindside played the major European festivals including Download in the U.K.
and Hultsfred back home in Sweden.

Blindside's latest release, 'The Great Depression' was born out of a trip
Lindskog took to South Africa. Songs poured out of him following his return
from the beleaguered nation, where he encountered individuals, families and whole communities being torn apart by the impact of AIDS. One young boy inspired the song that bears his name, Yemkela. Both of Yemkela's parents had died of AIDS.

"When I first met Yemkela he was sick, living in a shack and his t-cell
count was down to 20. There was little hope he would survive."

But the story came full circle when Blindside toured South Africa late in
2006. Yemkela had survived. Lindskog was able to meet up with him again,
and Blindside were honoured to have the boy appear on stage with them to
perform the song Yemkela.

"Positivity in music, being reflected by positivity in life. That's the main purpose in both writing and performing live. That's the thing we always come back to."

While reflecting Lindskog's experiences, 'The Great Depression' is also
about the universal struggle to find happiness.

"This record is not simply about depression. We all walk through difficult
times in our lives. We have learnt that there is reward in the journey. To
be lost and then found brings the greatest joy".

The Great Depression will be released in March by Shock Records.

Supporting Blindside at The Kings Arms - 59 France Street, Eden Terrace,
Central Auckland - on April 14 are Aotearoa's very own Falter and Callista.

Tickets are on sale from Thursday 1 March at www.iticket.co.nz (phone 09 361 1000) and Real Groovy.
