LUCIANO, MIKEY GENERAL & RICKY TROOPER @ GALATOS JAN 18...LIVE & DEADLY...

For the first time in New Zealand Motherland Collective and Guerrilla Agency presents LIVE & DEADLY featuring the one and only Jah Messenger Luciano alongside emcee Mikey General and the No1 top boss deejay Ricky Trooper all the way from KINGSTON, Jamaica for their solo show at Auckland's Galatos on January 18. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the best of Jamaican dancehall and modern roots reggae in this country.

Never before have New Zealand reggae audiences been treated to this level of reggae clientèle on one stage before in an emcee-deejay dancehall sound clash. The night at Galatos promises to be a straight out of Kingston experience complete with artists widely regarded as the best in the business.

Supporting the Live & Deadly trio at Galatos will be New Zealand's own Stinky Jim and The Mighty Asterix.

Luciano has been called one of modern dancehall's true international superstars and has been attributed with saving roots reggae in a widely digital age.

Author of the reggae bible Bass Culture: When Reggae Was King Lloyd Bradley called Luciano “spectacular...a leading light...bringing a much needed combination of joyousness and piety to the music...frequently topping the JA charts and doing very well in the UK...leaves the audience in need of a lie down...”

Bradley rates Luciano's conscious message so highly he allows the vocalist, known widely as Jah Messenger, the opportunity to close out his book.

“In the long term I think reggae is heading right back to where it once was. Good tunes, good singers, good messages,” Luciano says in the book's last page.

“If you feed them with violence they're going to be vile. If you fill them with love they're going to be lovely.”

To have Luciano in New Zealand is a momentous occasion for not just reggae and dancehall lovers but for people seeking a deeper, more universal message than some of this genre's proponents can offer. MEDIA: PLEASE SEE FULL LUCIANO BIO ATTACHED

Mikey General is well known in and around reggae circles for his conscious lyrics sung in melodious tones. He has been in the business for over 20 years working alongside Luciano bringing positive Rastafari-infused lyrics to an international audience.

Under the guidance of Xterminator label boss and producer Phillip 'Fatis' Burrell the likes of Mikey General, Sizzla and Luciano have taken the world by storm with their refreshingly rootsy, warm and open version of dancehall.

Like the Melodica King Augustus Pablo, Mikey General attributes his music to Jah in his album's liner notes.

The General and Luciano double-act is a must-see in musical circles and promises to tear the roof off Galatos.

Ricky Trooper is one of the most sought after reggae/dancehall deejay/sound clash maestros in the world. He was instrumental in the success of the now world famous Killamanjaro Sound System run by Noel Harper often penned the No1 system in the world.

Trooper won this year's "Death Before Dishonour" world sound clash title in Montego Bay. He ousted his nearest rival David Rodigan in the final with a Big Youth dub plate that he toasted over the top "hit the road sound boy, and don't you come back no more" to howls from the huge audience.

Trooper is known for his vocal mixes over classic instrumentals and re-workings of well known Studio One rhythms that all New Zealand reggae audiences will know well.

Trooper also has a stack of dub plates from the likes of Tenor Saw and Super Cat that no other deejay possesses.
