Dukes Gigs

Dukes, hailing from the musical south of Christchurch, return to Auckland for two quite different shows in support of their second single release, 'Mornin' from their debut album 'Lil’ Sunshine'.

"'Mornin' is something like a burst of sunshine, its cruising down a West Coast road in an old XR Falcon with windows partly down, wind in your feathered hair, listening to a scratchy push-button AM radio, while the buttons on your western shirt gleam in the late afternoon sun." Matt Barus, writer and lead singer of Dukes.

Performing Friday May 12, joining ex-pat Garden City musicians Heavy Jones Trio at the Kings Arms and then Saturday, May 13 for new and old friends, in an intimate stripped back session at the renowned K Rd’s Wine Cellar.

'Mornin' is the second single to be picked by New Zealand On Air for radio play and with a self-funded video directed by Richard Bell of Shuriken, the single is set to become a household toe-tapping favourite.

'Lil’ Sunshine' is the debut album from the Dukes, recorded in Christchurch, mixed in London, mastered in Auckland, and is a timeline of a band formed in early 2003.

Why should someone of your calibre love this band? Check lyrics, check music, check very live show and what about oversized grins, a little self-deprecating humour and genuine talent? Now that’s novel.

Dukes are:

Matt Barus - Lead Vocals/Guitar
Jo Barus - Bass/Vocals
Brad ‘The Kid’ Banks - Guitar/Vocals
Fausia Fialele - Drums
