The 2006 SoundSplash Eco Reggae Festival, to be held at Wainui Reserve, Raglan, promises to be even better that last year’s sell-out show.

In 2006 SoundSplash will feature two days of live music, running from midday on Saturday 4th February, right through until late afternoon on Sunday the 5th.

Performing in NZ exclusively for the SoundSplash festival are three, never been seen before in New Zealand, International acts:

- Third World - http://www.thirdworldband.com/

Veteran Jamaican roots reggae band Third World are one of the most popular International reggae bands of the last 30 years, and have performed alongside acts such as Bob Marley & the Wailers and the Jackson Five. Third World boasts a quarter-century of smash hit songs, sold-out tours and inspirational messages. International hit songs include Now That We've Found Love, 96 Degrees in the Shade,

Try Jah Love (written by Stevie Wonder), Sense of Purpose, Forbidden Love, Reggae Ambassador, and Reggae Party.

- Big Youth - http://www.geocities.com/studiowon/BigYouth.htm, http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/profiles/bigyouth.shtml

NOTE: A brilliant high res image of BY is now available on request.

In his home country, only the great Bob Marley rivalled Big Youth in terms of popularity among the followers of reggae music. Through his initial work with the Tippertone Sound System and a string of hits in Jamaica including Hit the Road Jack and S-90 Skank, Big Youth took deejay lyricism to a higher and more conscious level, and today remains one of the most respected artists of his generation. He was one of the first Jamaican performers to openly sport dreadlocks, and is easily recognizable due to his remarkable teeth, which are encrusted with red, gold and green jewels… the colours of Rastafarianism.

- DJ Earl Gateshead (Trojan Soundsystem) - http://www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/trojan/sound_system.htm

Began DJing in Brixton in 1979 and has worked as selector and MC with Cutty Ranks, Big Youth, Dr Alimantado and Dennis Alcapone amongst many others. His reggae nights at Plastic People have received worldwide recognition. Currently, Earl is reggae resident at London's largest and most successful nightclub. Earl is also a prolific DJ on the dance scene, having worked closely with Gilles Peterson (responsible for the legendary Lift night at Blue Note), setting up the first Broken Beat night with I.G Culture as well as working with Mr Fingers and MCs such as Mr C and Maxi Jazz.
