RUSSELL WATSON

Two extraordinary Concerts in New Zealand

Tickets on Sale Thursday, December 1, 2005

Crossover sensation RUSSELL WATSON returns to New Zealand to help us celebrate Waitangi Weekend with two 'Special Event' concerts. On Saturday 4 February, the concert is in New Plymouth in the beautiful lakeside setting of the TSB Bowl of Brooklands, where the Special Guests will be the chart-topping group AMICI Forever, and the following day in Marlborough the concert will be in the delightful setting amongst the vines of the Brancott Estate near Blenheim. The Special Guest for that concert, which benefits the Marlborough Community Hospice, is one of New Zealand's most promising sopranos, and guitarist, Deborah Wai Kapohe. Members of the Vector Wellington Orchestra will accompany the performers at both of these concerts.

Russell Watson's repertoire is most likely to include 'Granada', 'You Are So Beautiful', 'Volare', 'Amoré Musica', and with a choir 'Panis Angelicus', 'Ave Maria', 'Funiculi Funicula', 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot' and 'Nessun Dorma'.

Russell Watson Brief Biography:

Born in 1974, British tenor Russell Watson became an opera singer by a wonderful sequence of events. While he was a resident performer in various clubs in the Manchester and London suburbs, an owner of one such venue said that he thought Watson’s voice was better suited for opera and then requested that he learn Puccini's "Nessun Dorma," which he did and promptly added to his repertoire. Watson eventually signed with Decca Records, issuing his debut, entitled The Voice, in April of 2001. Nicknamed "the People's Tenor" (since he likes to chat with and seeks feedback from his fans), and also is well known for his renditions of contemporary compositions such as Freddie Mercury's "Barcelona (Friends Until the End)," Ultravox's "Vienna," and Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," in addition to the standards.
