Hayseed Dixie - A Hot Piece Of Grass
Posted: Tue Aug 9, 2005 6:38 pm
Touring NZ October 2005

Friday October 28 – Auckland @ The Studio
Saturday October 29 – Wellington @ Indigo

Everyone’s favourite Appalachian hell raisers, Hayseed Dixie, present their new album "A Hot Piece Of Grass". The album features interpretations of songs by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Black Sabbath, Franz Ferdinand, OutKast and Van Halen amongst others, plus seven Hayseed Dixie originals and a blistering plough through of ‘Dueling Banjos’, which was co-written by Don Reno Snr (Don Wayne and Dale’s father) in 1955.

Hayseed Dixie's story began a few years ago in the fertile valley hamlet of Deer Lick Holler when the boys discovered a wrecked vehicle with a parcel of vinyl albums by a band called AC / DC. Soon after listening to the albums on a Victrola at 78 RPM, Hayseed Dixie was born.

After releasing their first album, ‘Hayseed Dixie: A Hillbilly Tribute to AC / DC’, the band set out on the highway to hell and toured the world. After going through several wives each and heroic quantities of fuel and beverage, the boys of Hayseed Dixie: Barley Scotch, Talcum Younger, Enus Younger, and Mutt Twang, thought they knew as much about sex, drugs and rock & roll as anybody dead or alive. Well, other than Hank Williams and Bon Scott.

Their second album, 'Let There Be Rockgrass', was released early 2005 in NZ. Including live reprises of their best few AC/DC covers, plus killer versions of classics from Queen, The Darkness, Kiss, Aerosmith, Bad Company, Motorhead and more, it went absolutely berserk in the UK, where the Hayseed boys are now national heroes and more importantly, sex symbols.

The album also kept the flame burning in anticipation of their inaugural visit to New Zealand which had been hotly tipped to be happening in October of this year, following their second Australian tour and the release of ‘A Hot Piece Of Grass’.

To quote Hayseed Dixie's singer, Barley Scotch: "We ain't even started drinking yet. We've just been on a recon mission so far. Now we know where the party people around the world are, and we're coming back to close the deal." A promise, no doubt....

So, feeling the need to plough some fresh fertile fields, the Hayseed boys are now coming to NZ for 2 shows only.
