About John Egenes
John Egenes is part of the strong legacy handed down by the songwriters of the American Southwest. From Santa Fe, New Mexico and now living in Dunedin, he has spent his years on the road and in the studio backing some of the best representatives of the craft.
He's an excellent guitar player, also a first class multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, bass, mandola, mandocello, dobro, pedal steel, banjo, fiddle, lap steel, piano, accordion, harmonica, quatro, musical saw), he has performed and recorded with a range of artists that includes Eliza Gilkyson, Bill & Bonnie Hearne, Tish Hinojosa, Gary P. Nunn, Jono Manson, Tom Adler, Jaime Michaels, The Buckarettes, Stefano Barotti, and many others. Here in New Zealand he has recorded and performed with the likes of The Verlaines, Robert Scott (The Clean), Anji Sami, The Sami Sisters, Hannah Howes, Haunted Love, Kylie Harris, Hannah Curwood, The Low Spark, and he continues to offer his multi-instrumental chops to new recordings all the time.
He has shared the stage with a wide variety of musicians including Guy Clarke, Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, Townes van Zandt, Lynn Anderson, Pete Seeger, Jerry Jeff Walker, Bonnie Raitt, Greg Brown, Ian Tyson.... the list goes on and on.
