NZ Music Month @ Radio Active
Posted: Fri Apr 25, 2008 3:38 pm
Radio Active 89FM is Wellington's oldest FM radio station and has been proudly independent for over 30 years. During this era they have been the hand that rocks the cradle for developing bands exposure and what is now New Zealand's thriving music industry.

New Zealand Music Month began in 2001 due to what some considered as under-representation of NZ music on airwaves, TV and charts. Since then it has developed into a media frenzy, with networks trying to get the latest, greatest and potentially future famous bands and musicians behind their brand. Here at Radio Active 89FM, every month is NZ Music Month, although any chances to further promote NZ music is seen as a positive.

One of the few stations that exceed the Governments required 20% play listed NZ music; they have an average of 35% NZ play listed music. During NZ Music Month they will be aiming for 50% for three weeks and 100% for the final week of May. They will also be hosting events throughout Wellington, giving some very promising bands important exposure to audiences they wouldn't normally perform in front of.

This year, in celebration of NZ Music Month, between the hours of Midday and 1pm from the 26th to 30th May, Radio Active 89FM will showcase five up and coming NZ bands at Midland Park.

Midland Park is located in the middle of Lambton Quay, and is the Wellington CBD's most frequented lunching area. The green space is the perfect location for grabbing people's attention and entertaining them during their normally non-eventful lunch break.

Over 38,000 people walk the Golden Mile daily (2007 WCC Golden Mile Pedestrian Survey). There is no other area in Wellington's CBD with such high pedestrian foot traffic and exposure to so many affulent people. Either a small stage or trailer stage will be erected with a small sound system outside Astoria Cafe, which will entertain and showcase emerging NZ talent.
