Artist Promotion

When you are just starting out in the music industry it can be difficult to work out exactly what you should be doing. Should you record a demo to get record companies interested in your music? Should you be practising day after day, week after week? Should you get out there and have lots of gigs? Should you try to get signed up with a record company? Or maybe you should try to find someone to manage you?

Truth is, no one will know what works for them until they get out there and do something about it. We all know that 1 live gig will give you the experience of 20 rehearsals but you cannot rely on gigs alone to promote yourself and to create a fan-base.

That's where we come in. Here at muzic.net.nz we want to help you with all your online promotion needs. There is so much more to this site than just having an artist listing and your gigs on the gig guide, and there is a lot planned for the future, designed especially to help NZ's original musicians.

Many of you may know that you can have an artist listing on here - a listing which can include biography, discography, lyrics, contact form, interviews & reviews and picture & mp3 galleries. What you may not realise is that we offer the ability for you to keep your information up-to-date. Each artist listing is on every search engine possible and if you don't have an official website, in most cases, our listings are the ones that will show up on the search engine first. Therefore, it's important to keep your info up-to-date. You can also use our forums to keep your fans aware of what is happening and we are currently working on new features on the artist pages to allow you to promote yourself even more.

If you really want to promote yourself by having a website, we can offer you free unlimited webspace. That is, you won't have to pay a cent for it and you can put as much on it as you want.

You will also be aware of the huge gig guide we have. It is, in fact, the largest online gig guide in NZ - and yes, it's even larger that Loudmouth. This isn't something that we're just saying to get you interested in going to the gig guide - I know it is the largest gig guide because I add every single gig manually to it. All the gigs on this gig guide also go on our fortnightly gig guide mail out, which currently goes out to over 3,500 members nationwide.

If you are going on a tour, we can create a tour feature for you on the main page of our gig guide. This tour feature can include anything you want in it - press releases, photos, tour posters and the details of the tour.

You can also promote your gigs or CD releases by having advertisements on the site and on our fortnightly newsletter and gig guide mail outs.

Speaking of CD releases - our releases page is updated on a weekly basis and we can include all of your CD releases on there. If you request it, we can give your release special mention in the newsletter. Your releases (aside from singles, but including DVDs) can be entered onto your discography complete with cover and track listing. We can give your CDs and other merchandise away on our competitions page which promotes interest in your music.

There is a lot of change on the way for muzic.net.nz, and many of the changes we are making will be to help you more. We are going to be creating more ways to promote yourself and we are going to add more features to the site. Not only will these changes make the site more user-friendly and more accessible for our members, but there will be a number of new tools which will greatly assist you with your promotion.

With all we have planned I imagine it will take at least the rest of this year to get everything up and running, but I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

For more information about all of the above and what else we can do for you click here! You'll also find information here for venues and NZ music websites.

And in the meantime, if you have any questions about anything to do with this site or NZ music, whether it be with your promotion or not, email me today. If I can't help you I might be able to put you in touch with someone who can.

Have a good one
